News ArticleRapattoni authentication tokens work with multiple MLS sitesDeployments in North Carolina and California eliminate need for agents to carry multiple authentication tokens
"As data sharing agreements and regionalization of MLSs become more commonplace, it naturally follows that data security becomes a higher priority as more users than ever before have access to sensitive information. We're proud to have developed a system that not only protects that information, but is also easy to use and multifunctional," said Andy Rapattoni, president and CEO. Several Rapattoni customers are already experiencing the benefits of this innovation. The most recent to implement Secure Logon, the Tulare County Multiple Listing Service in California, has a significant percentage of its members who already have Secure Logon tokens through their membership with the Fresno Association of Realtors®. These Tulare/Fresno crossover members are able to access both MLSs using the same token. The Wilmington Regional Association of Realtors® and the Brunswick County Association of Realtors® were the first associations to employ the new technology when they launched their Single Sign-On (SSO) reciprocal access link for their members last month. Members of both Wilmington and Brunswick MLSs use the same token, regardless of which MLS they log on to initially. "The new advances in our Secure Logon software allow us to provide an unprecedented level of convenience for the end users, while maintaining the same high data security standards as before," said Peter Williams, Rapattoni's chief information officer. "Having the ability to offer tokens that let members access multiple MLSs, along with included SSO features, gives our customers a nearly unlimited spectrum of partnership opportunities in the real estate community and beyond." The Rapattoni Secure Logon service increases data security by ensuring that only authorized users can access the MLS. During logon, users must provide "two-factor authentication" — their ID and password (something they know), and the code displayed on their security token at that moment (something they have). The combination of the user's password and the correct token code provides a much more reliable level of user authentication than reusable passwords alone. Since each token is associated with a specific user, it eliminates the potential for account sharing and ID theft, and ensures that only authorized users can enter the MLS site.
